You have probably heard of Seagull Management - where the manager swoops in, sh@#$s on everything and then flies off. Please do not let your business be a victim of Seagull Facebooking.
|Save Me From Seagull Marketing|
This is the phenomenon where savvy business people hand over their baby, their bread and butter, their livelihood, and their reputation to an intern or student summer worker to "do" Facebook.
We started work with two clients this week who were victims of Seagull Facebooking and it is not pretty.
The first business had an employee offer to get them up on Facebook and setup their profile as a person. This is a great business with many loyal customers so they were friended up like a prom date with a reputation.
Unfortunately, now we need to convert those friends to fans. The second business employs a lot of college students for the summer. A student did a nice job setting up a page with some great photos and wonderful conversational posts.
Unfortunately, the student left for the summer and nobody else in the company was "on" Facebook or had any interest so their last post was dated 9 months ago.
Did I mention this business has a cult-like following and 3,423 fans?
Socialsprouts has taken over and now we are leaving messages back and forth with a nice college student who is studying for finals to try to get her to click us in as admins.
Here it is...the advice...drumroll...if you are going to let some random employee "do" Facebook, monitor the content and PLEASE instruct them to make you or some long-term employee an admin so you have ownership of the account when the Seagull flies off.
Or...you could just leave it all up to the professionals (us) at Socialsprouts.
